Position Summary:

 

Provide technical and project leadership in developing and deploying Composite Materials equipment and process technology for new product development, cost reduction and quality improvement.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, specify and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes or equipment
  • Develop and support manufacturing equipment improvement projects i.e. safety, quality, reliability etc.
  • Has active role in tooling and process equipment design.
  • Supports prototype and test procedure design for new manufacturing processes and improvements.
  • Provide leadership for the start-up of new projects.
  • Budget and control costs of assembly methods.
  • Leads process design through common methods, such as tooling, instructions and equipment.
  • Works with cross functional teams to establish production methods and quality requirements.
  • Develop layout and material flow plans.
  • Work with product engineering, customers, and suppliers to develop prototype and production parts.
  • Has working knowledge in CAD and SolidWorks.

Key Tasks

  • Responsible for Assembly Equipment Planning & Assembly Launch of new programs
  • Creates and maintains work instructions.
  • Develop manufacturing infrastructure to integrate or deploy new manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in quality, cost, reliability and efficiency of manufacturing equipment.
  • Developing or maintain programs associated with improving manufacturing production equipment.
  • Identifying and implementing new manufacturing technologies, processes or equipment.
  • Install and evaluate manufacturing equipment, materials or components.
  • Monitor or measure manufacturing processes to identify ways to reduce losses, decrease cycle/lead-times, or improve quality.
  • Oversee equipment start-up, characterization, qualification, and production handover.
  • Prepare plant and cell layouts, specifications, drawings, sketches of machinery / equipment including tooling and standard work documents using CAD software.
  • Develop capital investment justifications for manufacturing equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment purchases, installations, or transfers.
  • Estimate manufacturing costs.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and practices.
  • Training and operating materials for Production Equipment.
  • Train manufacturing associates on production equipment including H&S, quality etc.

 

Skills and Knowledge

 

  • Knowledge of process validation procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge and mastery of Composite Materials process with solid hands-on experience.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office software, Project Management, Statistical Analysis).
  • CAD, able to generate conceptual and detailed drawings in Autodesk Inventor.
  • Knowledge in lean manufacturing tools.
  • Experience in Manufacturing Technology development.
  • Effective decision making and analytical ability to render sound decisions based on data.
  • Financial skills to understand and use business financial data.
  • Strong problem solving skills and effective time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Exhibits a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.
  • Strong work ethic.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years experience in assembly environment
  • 2+ years experience in Product & Process engineering
  • 2+ years experience in technical process improvements
  • Fluent in French and English

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel globally/domestically in support of role objectives.
  • DBS/lean manufacturing experience – daily management, standard work, lean conversion.
  • Equipment/process design and specification experience within relevant industries such as Medical device, Aerospace or General Industrial.
  • Formal training, qualification and proven experience in Six Sigma techniques would be advantageous.
